Magnificent Building
I used to buy your 1:43.5 kits but have recently started building an 009 layout which is 1:76. The pub is now a large thantched house. The walls had 'dirtied' white walls and the frame, painted blackish, glued on top. The roof is a thin layer of air drying clay glued in place. It is stippled all over with a nail brush that is regularly cleaned. The ridge is formed from plumber's hemp. The whole roof is painted and then streaks of brown fine weathering is built up to resemble moss growth. Famtastically realistic.Ken Davidge (2 Jul 2024, 10:27)
One of the best kits in OO Scale
I used platicised embossed brick paper on the walls and the main chimney obtainable from a suppler in Greece. I painted the framework timbers black before applying them over the brick paper. The model looks superb when thatched with plumbers hemp, using (to the best of my ability) the technique advocated by Pendon modellers. The smaller chimney is finished with rough plaster rendering. I got more enjoyment and satisfaction from this model than any other I've attempted.David (9 Jun 2020, 14:29)
NOT JUST A PUB!!!!
I have used this model as a character farm house, and thatched it in a prototypical way, aprat from the "stitching" on the ridge. I don't use papers, I used very thin plastic embossed brick sheet , fully painted and weathered before the beams were installed. Looking back...If....WHEN I do another, i will make the chimney in stone. All In all, this kit lends you to all sorts of finishes, you just need to know what you want from the start and plan well. If these photos done show, I've put them on the facebook page too. DSC_1145.jpg DSC_1125.jpg DSC_0827.jpgJOHN SIMPSON (6 May 2020, 19:57)
